This summer, the Miami Design Preservation League is showing the entire first season every Tuesday night -- just in time for the soon-to-be released movie based on the series. ... Miami Vice is an atypical choice for the Design Preservation League; its film series usually features classic movies from the 1930s and 1940s, said director of programs and outreach Scott Timm.
But according to Timm, the '80s show fits in with the league's mission: to preserve, protect and promote Miami's unique, tropical take on Art Deco. ''Miami Vice came along at a very important moment in the city's history,'' he said. ``In the 1970s, Art Deco was beginning to fall out of fashion. But fortunately, because of the influence Miami Vice had, people around the world came to rediscover it.''
